ROCKBRIDGE STATE PARK
MISSOURI, OCTOBER

One fine day in Missouri we took a drive up to Columbia, the home of Missouri State University, to do a bit of shopping. Being who are, we took random country roads back to Jefferson City and we were richly rewarded by the most amazing full moon we have ever seen and by the discovery of Rockbridge State Park. We immediately planned a return visit to hike one of the trails and this is the record of that mile-long hike. October is definitely the time to do that, by the way. The colors were wonderful and the temperature was pleasant. We have become impressed with the State Parks system in Missouri and they are to be congratulated for their efforts.

We don't know what this is. It seems to be a parasite that grows on a few dead trees- or it kills the trees.

Aww... it's a wholly bear.

We are not sure what it is, but it is certainly pretty.

We spent a long time watching this Red-headed Woodpecker working that tree. We don't see them in Arizona.

Yes, we enjoyed that day every bit as much as it appears.
