ARIZONA/SONORAN DESERT MUSEUM

On August 1, 2006 Betsy and I spent the day at the Arizona/Sonoran Desert Museum just West of Tucson. It was a hot day but we had a great time anyway and left when we felt we had done everything we wanted to do. We walked through all the grounds. We went into the big cave and spent time looking at troglodites and rocks. We spent a lot of time in the aviary where Betsy's soe was attacked by a grazed Gallinule and we were dive-bombed by a wise guy Cardinal. If I go back there I want to be there at opening time and simply sit in the aviary for a couple of hours; there is a great deal to watch and it seems to interactive in spite of the program.

The last bird picture here is of a Quail family. Two things were odd here. There were only two babies and they were very clearly from different clutches and both parents had scooped out a shallow hole for the young and were trying to throw cool dirt over them.
